Gina Economou, Eventing Trainer
With
both mother and grandmother intimately involved with
horses, Gina began riding "before she was born." Mainly
riding jumpers as a child and through her teens on the
East Coast, her love of horses was set.
In 1988, riding in Adult Amateur Jumpers, Gina was Champion or Reserve
Champion many times with her horse, Tuff Stuff Bailey. She rode
successfully in 1997 and 1998 on the Indio Circuit. Today, Gina continues
to compete in jumpers with horses in Level 6's.
Gina was introduced to Eventing as a child while riding with Egon Mertz,
a German three-day event rider. She began competing formally in high
school and moved quickly through the levels, completing several horse
trials through the 3-star level. Highlights include:
- 2001 AHSA Area VI Horse of the Year on Airtyme at the Intermediate
Level
- Completed the CCI*** at Fairhill in October 2003 on Airtyme
- Completed the CIC*** at Galway Downs in April 2005 on Tombo Unico
- Completed several CIC** horse trials on three different horses
- Participated in the Developing Rider Program
Gina
has trained with several clinicians including Anne Kursinski,
Captain Mark Phillips, Bruce Davidson, Buck Davidson,
Mike Huber, Jimmy Wofford, Blyth Tait, Karen O'Connor,
David O'Connor, Brian Sabo, Darren Chiacchia, and Kim
Severson. Gina's students have been successful riders
competing up to the 2-star level.
Gina is a very dedicated and passionate trainer. Her greatest satisfaction
comes from a horse understanding and enjoying his job, and watching her
students grasp the simple yet intricate concepts involved in riding a
three-day event horse. |
